Jessie D. “Dorty” Allen, 95, of Peoria passed away on Thursday evening, March 24, 2011, surrounded by her loving family.
Funeral services will be at 2 p.m. on Monday, March 28, 2011, at Clary Funeral Home, 428 West McClure Avenue, in Peoria, with the Rev. Brooks McDaniel and the Rev. Dr. Curt D. Keller officiating. Visitation will be from 3 to 5 p.m. on Sunday, March 27, 2011, also at the funeral home. Interment will follow the services at Swan Lake Memory Gardens in Peoria.
She was born in Gaylord, MN on February 20, 1916 to John W. and Gladys Munsch. She married Stanley C. Allen on August 27, 1938 in Easton.
She is reunited in heaven with her parents; husband; daughter, Peggy Turner; and granddaughters, Kimberly and Jennifer Allen.
Jessie leaves her legacy behind: son, Robert (Linda) Allen and granddaughters, Kelly (Garrett) Sims and Angie Allen, all from the Atlanta, GA area; son-in-law; William L. Turner, grandson, William A. Turner, granddaughters, Heidi (Bret) Bauer and Holly (Dorian) Mosack, all from the Peoria area; granddaughter, JoEllen Ellington of NY; and ten great-grandchildren, whom she loved dearly.
Jessie graduated from the Methodist School of Nursing in 1937. She spent her life caring for others as a nurse, beginning at the R.G. LeTourneau factory and Methodist Hospital. After 25 years, she retired as the Head Nurse at the Florence Crittenton Home, where she “stopped counting” after delivering 100 babies.
She was a member of Forrest Hill United Methodist Church.
She was quite the game player and made some clever house rules, giving her the edge over any competitor. Her favorites included pinochle, search-a-word puzzles, yahtzee and bingo. Her latest claim to fame was being classified as a “pro bowler” in Wii bowling.
She also enjoyed fishing, playing pool, being a snowbird in Florida, making ceramics, painting, knitting, gardening, being in the Red Hat Society with her daughter and, most of all, taking care of her family.
She was an amazingly independent woman, compassionate and had a quiet dignity about her. Her resilient, fighting spirit will forever be a model for perseverance. She will be lovingly remembered and deeply missed by all who had the honor of knowing her.
Memorial contributions may be made in Jessie’s memory to the 1700 Oncology Foundation at OSF Saint Francis Medical Center or to Forrest Hill United Methodist Church.

Please accept my heart felt condolences at this time. Jessie was a sweet, sweet lady and I was blessed to have known her and to be part of her extended family. Her love and memories will be cherished by all who knew her.

Aunt Jessie was always in life. She was always participating in whatever was going on at the time. She loved life and she loved her family. She was an Allen Family treasure.
I don't remember a recent Allen Reunion that she missed. She loved to play cards with whoever was up and ready to play. The last Reunion was at the Eugene T Majoney State Park near Ohama, NE in 2009. I will never forget Jessie teaching us a new game, which I think she called it "Mexican Dominoes". It was about mid-night and she was still going strong. We all learned the game from her and then we turned in for some sleep.
We all loved you and we still do.
